History
The Start
The beginning for BeaCon was late 1998. The concept arose from a desire to have an open (i.e., public) health registry for Bearded Collies. At the time the BCCA Health Committee’s primary mission was determined to be education. BeaCon formally incorporated April 1999 in the state of New Mexico.
Soon after incorporation, BeaCon applied for provisionary status with the IRS as a 501(c)(3) organization. Permanent 501(c)(3) status was granted in 2005. BeaCon is registered both in the states of New Mexico and Georgia.

Bylaws
The underlying principle for the Bylaws was simplicity. Routine functions are governed by policies and procedures so that the Bylaws do not require changing.

The Present
All work is done by volunteers (almost all on the Board of Directors), except for ISP hosting and consultation on the OHR database and interactive forms. See the directors’ page for current and past Board members.
